At the start of October the club held their (now annual) golf day and presentation evening.
8 players meet for a buffet breakfast at the Enderby Toby Carvery, before being joined by a further 4 at Blaby golf centre.
After much consideration to handicaps (before handicaps being sorted at the end) the groups were formed and the first group tee'd off.
Following a fun days activity, albeit with some stray tee shots putting the previous group in danger a few times, Robin collected to scorecards and attempted to work out the results and due to Blaby’s forgiving nature adjusted handicaps appropriately for those who played ‘regularly’. Eventually he worked out that Graham Manship won the overall event, alongside the closest to the pin, with Dave Jenkins picking up the longest drive from the 8th tee. Ben ran Dave close, but failed to stay on the fairway. To everyone’s delight, it was announced that Dave Speight won the wooden spoon. (Note: Dave refused to take the wooden spoon home, on the basis it would just sit in a drawer all year!)
The end of season awards took place at the Winstanley Arms, just down the road from our ground at Winstanley Community College.
The seconds had another difficult season with skipper Jason stepping down after a match towards the end of the season. They finished 6th in Divison 10 West.
The batting Trophy was won by Jason Smith, while Nam won the bowling award.
The first team had a mixed season, but an excellent team spirit has been built up, thanks in part to Scott’s initiative of anyone who gets a 50 or 5 wickets has to bring a crate of beers to the next home match. One highlight was smashing 265 off 45overs at home to Shree Santana’s 2nds before bowling them out for a 100+ run win. A tense last day of the season win away at Uppingham under Ben’s leadership demonstrated the sides team spirit as well as sending Uppingham down following Mountsorrel’s last day win. Despite not scoring enough, Brausntone successfully defended their total of 110 with only 10 men, with Ben switching ends to take the last wicket with the first ball of his new spell. Motivation indeed, as at the start of the innings he only needed 6 wickets to pip Jamaal to the bowling trophy, with Nick Hall (5) and John Collins (4) all close. Despite a stirling effort of pace bowling with the wind behind him Nick could only manage 4 wickets (maybe with 11 men we’d had got one of the many edges through slip!)
Dav Collins took home the batting trophy, while Jamaal Manship won the bowling trophy.
The John Robinson Trophy was awarded to Dav Collins for his 2 centuries and consistent batting throughout the season.
Dave Jenkins was the recipient of the Most Improved Player trophy. Much deserved after his batting performances for both the first and second teams this season.
Dave also got awarded the John Robertson award for all his work behind the scenes with the teas this season. The quality of the seasons was regularly commented on by opposition players.
The Merit Award, as voted for by the players on the night was awarded to Mark Bindley.
