The Braunstone Cricketers Cricket Club AGM was held on Friday 27th of January 2016, with a disappointingly low attendance. Remember, if you cannot make it, please send your apologies to Dave Jenkins or via a Committee Member.
The election of Officers was as follows: Chairman: David Jenkins. Secretary: Ben Newcombe. Treasurer: Robin Hall. Fixtures Secretary: David Speight. Matchday Contact David Speight. 1st Team Captain: Ben Newcombe (Jason Smith also proposed). 2nd Team Captain: Mike Allen (Adam Lewin and Tom Noble also proposed).. President: Rex Swann. Life Members: Life memberships of the club were awarded to Alan Baird and Andy Holmes. As in the Club Constitution the two Captains will choose their own Vice-Captains. This year we will be running two fundraiser's running. The 100 club will be running again this year. The uptake on this was disappointing last season, keep an eye and ear out for forms at nets in the coming weeks to get your number. If everyone in the club buys one number and sells another to a friend/family member then the 100club will soon fill up (we can go past 100 numbers if we need to. This will again be co-ordinated by Ben Newcombe. Entry forms are also available on this website. The fantasy cricket will be making another appearance this season. More details will be available once players costs have been established. Following the birth of his daughter Lola, Dave Jenkins will no longer be able to make the teas each week. It was decided that it would be sorted by the home team that week, and the committee will be discussing incentives to encourage players to help out on this front (one possibility is their match fee being waived for that week) Dave Jenkins will be issuing a list of what he provided for the teas last season. At the start of October the club held their (now annual) golf day and presentation evening.
8 players meet for a buffet breakfast at the Enderby Toby Carvery, before being joined by a further 4 at Blaby golf centre. After much consideration to handicaps (before handicaps being sorted at the end) the groups were formed and the first group tee'd off. Following a fun days activity, albeit with some stray tee shots putting the previous group in danger a few times, Robin collected to scorecards and attempted to work out the results and due to Blaby’s forgiving nature adjusted handicaps appropriately for those who played ‘regularly’. Eventually he worked out that Graham Manship won the overall event, alongside the closest to the pin, with Dave Jenkins picking up the longest drive from the 8th tee. Ben ran Dave close, but failed to stay on the fairway. To everyone’s delight, it was announced that Dave Speight won the wooden spoon. (Note: Dave refused to take the wooden spoon home, on the basis it would just sit in a drawer all year!) The end of season awards took place at the Winstanley Arms, just down the road from our ground at Winstanley Community College. The seconds had another difficult season with skipper Jason stepping down after a match towards the end of the season. They finished 6th in Divison 10 West. The batting Trophy was won by Jason Smith, while Nam won the bowling award. The first team had a mixed season, but an excellent team spirit has been built up, thanks in part to Scott’s initiative of anyone who gets a 50 or 5 wickets has to bring a crate of beers to the next home match. One highlight was smashing 265 off 45overs at home to Shree Santana’s 2nds before bowling them out for a 100+ run win. A tense last day of the season win away at Uppingham under Ben’s leadership demonstrated the sides team spirit as well as sending Uppingham down following Mountsorrel’s last day win. Despite not scoring enough, Brausntone successfully defended their total of 110 with only 10 men, with Ben switching ends to take the last wicket with the first ball of his new spell. Motivation indeed, as at the start of the innings he only needed 6 wickets to pip Jamaal to the bowling trophy, with Nick Hall (5) and John Collins (4) all close. Despite a stirling effort of pace bowling with the wind behind him Nick could only manage 4 wickets (maybe with 11 men we’d had got one of the many edges through slip!) Dav Collins took home the batting trophy, while Jamaal Manship won the bowling trophy. The John Robinson Trophy was awarded to Dav Collins for his 2 centuries and consistent batting throughout the season. Dave Jenkins was the recipient of the Most Improved Player trophy. Much deserved after his batting performances for both the first and second teams this season. Dave also got awarded the John Robertson award for all his work behind the scenes with the teas this season. The quality of the seasons was regularly commented on by opposition players. The Merit Award, as voted for by the players on the night was awarded to Mark Bindley. The 2016 pre-season meal and skittle evening was held at the Black Horse Inn in Aylestone on Friday the 8th of April. This was very well attended and we had to eat in 2 sittings, faggots, chips and mushy peas galore.
Funds were raised for the club through a raffle and the auction of a signed Micheal Vaughan bat in a display case, and a round of golf for 4 at Kirby Muxloe golf club. In total £213 was raised for club funds._ Further fundraising this season is our 100 Club (click here for more details) and our Fantasy Cricket league (click here) The Braunstone Cricketers Cricket Club AGM was held on Friday 22nd of January 2016, with a disappointingly low attendance.
2nd Team Captain: Jason Smith. 1st Team Captain: Scott Baird. President: Rex Swann. As in the Club Constitution the two Captains will choose their own Vice-Captains. Scott has already named Steve Base as his Vice-Captain. This year the Social Events will be run by the Committee. Due to Family life and 2 young children Simon is no longer able to take this role on. The Committee would like to thank Simon for his efforts in this role over the past few years. This year we will be running two fundraiser's running. The 100 club will be running again this year. The uptake on this was dissapointing last season, keep an eye and ear out for forms at nets in the coming weeks to get your number. If everyone in the club buys one number and sells another to a friend/family member then the 100club will soon fill up (we can go past 100 numbers if we need to. This will again be co-ordinated by Ben Newcombe. Entry forms are also available on this website. Scott Baird will also be running a Fantasy Cricket League for all Braunstone League fixtures this season. Rules will be available soon from Scott at nets and on the Fantasy Cricket page on this website. This year there is an initiative being run by Leicestershire County Cricket Club. For the duration of their T20 competition, for every adult ticket bought in advance (£15), as long as you say 'Braunstone Cricketers' when booking from the ticket office (either in person or on the phone), we will get £3 back for each ticket sold (at the end of the T20 campaign). If we sell 100 tickets or more, we will also receive a coaching session from a Leicestershire Foxes player. This doesn't cost you any extra, but raises much needed funds for our club. It isn't limited to just club players/members, so tell your family and friends about it and they too can raise money for Braunstone Cricketers. At the start of October the club held their (now annual) golf day and presentation evening.
8 players meet for a buffet breakfast at the Enderby Toby Carvery, before being joined by a further 2 at Blaby golf centre. After much consideration to handicaps (with the majority playing off the maximum 28) the groups were formed and the first group tee'd off. Lee Croucher was amongst the first group (watching not playing) with son Freddie (who found Speighty's shots hilarious!). Another highlight of the day was the pair of them being 'escorted' from the course on a golf buggy. Jason finally emerged victorious after everyone finished the full 18. Ben won the closest to the pin on the 11th (30 feet away, but the only one of the 10 to hit the green and stick on it!) Dave Jenkins won the longest drive from the final group, clearing Jason's marker before even bouncing! Scott nearly pipped Dave, but having gone past Dave's ball, failed to stay on the fairway, with Gareth 'Moz' Jones picking up the wooden spoon. The end of season awards took place at the Bee's Knees in Thorpe Astley. The seconds had another difficult season under new Skipper Jason, finishing bottom of the division and failing to win a game for the second season running. Highlights included Speighty and Scribbo batting out for over 20 overs to deny Great Glen's 2nds a win under Vice-Skipper Ben, and the majority of the 2nd team playing for the firsts against Oakham and holding out for a losing draw to keep the first teams unbeaten run going. The batting Trophy was won by Mark Bindley while Jason Smith won the bowling award. The first team had a mixed season. Although finishing on a 14 game unabated run, there were a number of games where having batted first, the final wicket pair denied Braunstone, and there were a number of dropped catches. It was also good to see a couple of second team players (Jamal and Ben) being selected for the first team and gaining regular places. There were also a number of centuries this season, with 2 for Dav Collins and 1 for Steve Base (in-between 2 night shifts!) Another highlight was a nail-biting 1 wicket win away at league leaders (and eventual champions) Highfield Rangers, after John Collins took a 6fer, and Braunstone having to bat before tea, Ben held up an end, and Steve Base hitting the winning runs to the delight of the pitch-invading Collin's brothers! Scott took home the batting trophy, just pipping Dav Collins while Jim Collins won the bowling trophy. The John Robinson Trophy was awarded to Dav Collins for his 2 centuries and consistent batting throughout the season. Jamal Manship was the recipient of the Most Improved Player trophy. Much deserved after cementing his place as an opening bowler in the first team this season. The Merit Award, as voted for by the players on the night was awarded to Dave Speight. This season Dave has done a massive amount of work behind the scenes, collecting availabilities, contacting the various match day Skippers with the availabilities and then contacting each player to let them know who they were playing for, and where they had to be and when. We have a number of social events planned for the 2015 season which started with our (now annual) pre-season meal in April.
These events are not just limited to players and club members but to their families as well. More details of each event will be made available nearer the date of each event. Sunday 24th May Single Wicket Competition (Midday) Family Quiz Night (19:30) Sunday 28th June Ten Pin Bowling (£10) Friday 31st July Dog Racing Night at Nottingham (£10) Sunday 30th August to Tuesday 1st September Tour to Derbyshire/Peak District (games on each day - opposition T.B.C.) Sunday 4th October Golf Day (Blaby Golf Course) Club Presentation Evening (Time to T.B.C.) Braunstone Cricketers held their AGM for the 2015 season on January 23rd.
Andy Holmes decided that he wished to stand down as Second Team Captain. The club thanked Andy for leading the seconds through a difficult season where he was all to regularly left without a full side. Jonny Hood remains the First Team Captain, sharing the role with Simon Suffolk. The club feels he did a fine job in the circumstances leading the club into the new ear of the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League. Jason Smith will be the new second team captain looking after the twos who despite a tough season remain in Division 8 although move to the Eastern side as opposed to the Western. Jason has chosen Ben Newcombe as his Vice-Captain. The club officers remain the same with Ben Newcombe also being elected to the Management Committee. Simon Suffolk will also take on the role of Social Secretary. It was also decided that the club membership and match fee's would remain the same as for 2014. It was made clear however that the current fee structure is only able to remain in place as long as the 100 club is successful as this fundraiser allows us to subsidise the fees. It was therefore decided that it was for all club members to help push the 100 club to help maintain the fees at their currently level. Back in October the club held its annual end of season awards dinner at The Shakespeare. The event was well attended and much fun was had by all.
In total £275 was raised for the club through a raffle and an auction of sporting items. Here's a quick summary of who won what: 1st XI Batting Award - Dav Collins. 1st XI Bowling Award - John Scrivens. 2nd XI Batting Award - Mike Allen. 2nd XI Bowling Award - Jason Smith. Merit Award - Mark Bindley. Most Improved Player - Tom Noble. The John Robinson Trophy - Shared between Jon Hood and Andy Holmes. Club single wicket - John Scrivens. Club end of season golf day - Dave Jenkins. Braunstone Cricketers held their AGM on November 15th November.
Lee Croucher decided that he wished to stand down as First Team Captain and also Social Secretary due to work commitments. The club thanked Lee for his leadership through a difficult season not only on the field but off it too where he had been instrumental in fundraising efforts through many social functions. Jonny Hood is now the new First Team Captain, the club feels he will be an excellent successor and has the full support of all officials and players as the club enters into a new era for league cricket with the newly formed Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League. Andy Holmes will be the new second team captain looking after the twos who are also entering into the new league with their promoted status, the club also wishes to offer Andy its full support It was decided at the AGM that the respective Captains will nominate their own Vice Captains, these will be announced in due course. The club officers remain the same however Rex Swann has finally decided to stand down as Chairman. The club would like to express its thanks and gratitude to Rex for his many years of service at the club, a founder member, player and committee member. A shining example and hard act to follow. Dave Jenkins will now take on the role of Chairman being supported initially by Rex. A change of Direction for the club but certainly a positive step bringing some young fresh ideas to the committee. |
